The formula we use to estimate distance in miles from steps is:

Where:

  • Steps is the number of steps taken
  • Stride Length is estimated as 41.5% of your height (in inches)
  • 63,360 is the number of inches in a mile

Calculation Steps

  1. Calculate your stride length by multiplying your height (in inches) by 0.415
  2. Multiply your total steps by your stride length
  3. Divide the result by 63,360 to convert from inches to miles
