How to Calculate Navy PRT Score

The Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) is a comprehensive assessment of a sailor's physical fitness. It consists of three events: push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run. Each event is scored individually, and then the scores are combined to determine an overall PRT score.

Navy PRT Score Formula

The formulas used in this calculator are:

$$Push-up Score = min(100, Number of Push-ups)$$

$$Sit-up Score = min(100, Number of Sit-ups)$$

$$Run Score = max(0, 100 - (Run Time in seconds - 600) / 3)$$

$$Total Score = (Push-up Score + Sit-up Score + Run Score) / 3$$

Where:

  • Push-up Score is capped at 100 points
  • Sit-up Score is capped at 100 points
  • Run Score is based on the time to complete 1.5 miles, with a maximum of 100 points
  • Total Score is the average of the three event scores

Calculation Steps

  1. Calculate the Push-up Score by taking the minimum of 100 and the number of push-ups performed
  2. Calculate the Sit-up Score by taking the minimum of 100 and the number of sit-ups performed
  3. Convert the 1.5-mile run time to seconds
  4. Calculate the Run Score using the formula above, ensuring it's not less than 0 or greater than 100
  5. Calculate the Total Score by averaging the three event scores

Example Calculation

Let's calculate the PRT score for a sailor who performs 60 push-ups, 70 sit-ups, and completes the 1.5-mile run in 11:30 (690 seconds):

Step 1: Calculate Push-up Score

$$Push-up Score = min(100, 60) = 60$$

Step 2: Calculate Sit-up Score

$$Sit-up Score = min(100, 70) = 70$$

Step 3: Calculate Run Score

$$Run Score = max(0, 100 - (690 - 600) / 3) = 70$$

Step 4: Calculate Total Score

$$Total Score = (60 + 70 + 70) / 3 = 66.67$$

Therefore, this sailor's estimated Navy PRT score is 66.67 out of 100.

Visual Representation

This bar chart illustrates the individual event scores for the example calculation. It provides a visual representation of how each event contributes to the overall PRT score, making it easier to understand the relative performance across push-ups, sit-ups, and the 1.5-mile run.
